Please see the communication sent to all parents launching our new Uniform this year - this outlines the uniform policy. Please download the order form by selecting the link above. Fill it in and either email it to parkheadcommunityprimaryschool@gateshead.gov.uk or drop it into the school office. Please ensure you specify your child's name at the bottom of the form so that it is embroidered on the item of uniform.We are asking schools to help us to make the Childs’ name as unobtrusive as possible. We are recommending that you use no more than 10 or 12 characters, (inc spaces).Use initials, abbreviated names, nicknames, anything to shorten it so it looks neat on the garment.

Dear Parent/Carer
School Uniform

Since writing to you in February about the move to a single colour for the school uniform, a great deal of consultation has taken place. Parents, staff, governors and –most importantly – the children have been asked for their views about which colour they would like.

This week the governors have met to review the outcomes of this consultation process and it has been decided that the school uniform colour will be a white poloshirt with a red sweatshirt.

We would like this uniform to come into effect as soon as possible but we understand that some parents may wish to continue to send their children in blue sweatshirts until they have had the opportunity to buy a red one, and a similar situation may be true for poloshirts. In my last letter I mentioned that there would be an 8 month phasing out period of the old uniform colours and so the wearing of new uniform colours will not be enforced until January 2009. Mrs Wilson will be launching a new round of uniform ordering ready for the September start very shortly.

The school’s governors have also agreed some additional details with regards to the wearing of school uniform, and they as follows;

Trainers and jewellery are not part of the school uniform and therefore should not be worn with uniform
The only red sweatshirts allowed will be those bought through school with the school logo on
White poloshirts without the school logo will be allowed so long as they are plain white
Red cardigans will form part of the new school uniform and will be available through school
Summer dresses for girls may be worn but they must also be red-checked
The school will sell plain white t-shirts with the school logo on for PE lessons. These t-shirts, or the house colour t-shirt, should be worn for PE.
Trousers or skirts should be grey.

I really look forward to seeing the children in a single coloured uniform and my thanks go to all those that took part in the consultation exercise that has led to these improvements to the direction of the school.

Yours sincerely
