Year 5 visit Eden Camp

Year 5 travelled to Yorkshire last week to visit Eden Camp. Miss Sharpe asked everyone to write a report about the day. Thank you to Rhya for her report published below.

EXTRAORDINARY EDEN CAMP!

On Thursday 24th June, Year 5 took a breathtaking step back in time to World War II (or as good as that). We all went to Eden Camp for the day.

The journey was long because we hit the morning traffic but it was worth it!

As we stepped down off the coach, we gaped in awe at the huts, the planes and even a tank! We split up into groups, so as not to crowd one hut.

The sounds and smells were very good but we knew it would never be the same as actually living through the war. Stepping into the mine hut, we weren’t prepared for the ghastly smell that hung in the air. We took in all that we could; imagining what it was like being there.

Creeping slowly through the Blitz hut, our hearts skipped a beat at the figures suddenly appearing in front of us. Staring at a house blown up by the bombs made us realise... WWII happened. Looking through the streets of WWII, we couldn’t believe the tiny amount of food they got! We could eat that in a day!

Going into Eden Camp’s gift shop, we chose our things. They were very cheap!

After watching a very funny puppet show (which left some people slightly damp), we ate our ice-cream with pleasure, the sun beating down on us.

‘All of the children enjoyed it. It was very educational yet pleasurable,’ stated Mr Johnson.

It was an exciting day but remember… We will never have a perfect world.
