Our Year 5 and 6 football team finished off a fantastic season by being crowned Gateshead Primary School Champions. Parkhead beat Lobley Hill 4 - 3 in the Gateshead Final with goals from Mark Dodds, Pete Smith and two from George Longstaff. This means that Parkhead are now officially the best football team in Gateshead!
The team won the Gateshead East League with a 100% record, winning every game. They then faced the Gateshead West League winners, Lobley Hill, at Lobley Hill Primary School. In a fiercely contested final Parkhead came out on top. Mr Mordue would like to say a huge well done to all players who represented the school this year for their commitment and sportsmanship throughout the season - a great effort!

Members of the Park Head Community Primary School wildlife club, from front, Aaron McNally, Dominic Murphy, Robert Swan and Nicole Bambrough, off to join their fellow pupils in the new outdoor classroom. A new outdoor classroom at Parkhead Primary School in Winlaton will help pupils get closer to nature.
The classroom - which comprises of seating and teaching areas, a nature trail and newly planted tress and flowers - has been created in a woodland area behind the school.
It will enable pupils to learn first-hand about nature and the environment and will provide a home for the after-school wildlife club.
More than 400 children at the school have been actively involved in the creation of the outdoor classroom. As well as helping with ideas for the initial design, the children have also been planting trees and flowers and constructing the nature trail.
The project was funded with £10k grant from the National Lottery.
An official opening of the outdoor classroom took place today (4th July 2008), when a plaque was put up to mark the site.
Head teacher at Parkhead, Ben Harding, said: “We’re delighted to finally open our outdoor classroom, which has been in creation for the last six months.
“The planning and building of the outdoor classroom is a success in itself because the pupils have put in so much effort to make it happen.
“We are now looking forward to conducting many of our lessons outside. Teaching outdoors makes learning a much more dynamic process, which can help evolve the curriculum and promote creativity and greater understanding of environmental issues.”
Councillor Catherine Donovan, cabinet member for children and young people at Gateshead Council, said: “This classroom will provide a rich and stimulating environment for the children, which wouldn’t necessarily be found indoors.
“It is a great resource for the school and will give the children endless learning opportunities.”

On Friday 27th June 2008, some of our KS2 children took part in the Gateshead Primary Schools Athletics Festival at Gateshead International Stadium. Over 40 schools participated on the day! Events included sprinting, long jump, skipping, javelin, spring jumps and many others. Well done to all of our athletes who represented the school so well.

On Tuesday 8th July 2008, Year 6 visited Craster for our end of year trip. We walked along the rocky shore to Dunstanburgh Castle where we explored the ruins and had our lunch. We then walked back along the shore and had great fun exploring the rockpools. Even the pouring rain didn't spoil our fun!

Here are some pictures of us having our first lesson in the outdoor classroom in the school wood. It was a little different from a normal leson as Frazer was attacked by a killer earwig, Devon was nearly eaten by a daddy-long-legs and Dale had to flee from a marauding beetle! Somehow, they all made it through to lunchtime...!

In 3/4B we have been learning how to use photos which we take on the digital camera. We took a photo, connected the USB cable to the computer and the camera and then copied and pasted the photo into our powerpoint presentation! You'll get to see the powerpoints over the next few weeks!
