PE and Sports Provision

We look forward to building on a truly successful year in 2018 with our PE provision.
At Parkhead Primary school we believe a high quality and enjoyable physical education programme is a vital part of a child’s development. Our school is committed to increasing the physical activity of all of our children. We aim to develop each child’s physical confidence and skills enabling them to lead healthy lifestyles. Through our curriculum we offer the children opportunities to compete both against themselves and others, in order to build self- confidence, resilience and a sense of fair play. The curriculum is designed to enable all children to participate including those who are more able, as well as those with additional needs. The PE and Sports Premium has been used and will continue to be used to promote and develop these skills, as well as support teaching staff in their continuous professional development.
This term children in year 3 and 4 have been swimming every week and this will continue until the end of the academic year.
There has been a diverse range of activities available to all children throughout the school during curriculum time and before and after school.

In April 2013, the government announced new funding of £150 million for physical education and sport across all state-funded schools. The funding is to be used to improve the quality and breadth of PE and sport provision. Click below to see how we are utilising this money and the specific action plan.

We strive to ensure that our children have the opportunity to apply the skills they have developed in PE lessons, lunchtime and after school clubs whilst matched against other schools in a competitive nature. To achieve this we enter a range of tournaments and festivals over the academic year.

Alongside these numerous events we also hold further inter-house activities in school as well as attending as many events as we can held by our feeder schools which may introduce new and interesting sports to our children.

We are proud of our provision of PE in school and are always eager to give our wonderful children the opportunity to participate in as many events as possible.
