Safeguarding

Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is everyone’s responsibility at Parkhead Community Primary School.

At Parkhead Community Primary School we are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and we expect all staff, governors, visitors and volunteers to share this commitment.

We recognise the importance of providing an ethos and environment within school that will help children to feel safe, secure and respected; encourage them to talk openly to adults; and enable them to have the confidence that they will be listened to. All staff receive annual training and regular updates throughout the year and are alert to signs of abuse and neglect. All staff understand safe professional practice and adhere to our code of conduct and other related policies.

Child protection is a part of safeguarding and promoting welfare. It refers to the activity that is undertaken to protect specific children who are suffering, or are likely to suffer, significant harm.

Purpose of our Child Protection and Safeguarding Policy

Our safeguarding policy provides clear direction to all school stakeholders about expected practice in dealing with safeguarding issues. It outlines clearly the procedures to be followed, ensuring that safeguarding concerns are handled sensitively, effectively and in a way that supports and protects the needs of the child.

There are three main aims to our Policy:

  • Prevention: by creating a positive school atmosphere and providing high quality teaching and pastoral support to pupils;
  • Protection: by following agreed procedures and ensuring staff are appropriately recruited, trained and supported to respond appropriately and sensitively to Safeguarding concerns;
  • Support: by providing support for pupils and school staff and for children who may have been or are being abused.
