  • Primary Science Quality Mark

Fri 27 May 2022 Miss Bulman

We are delighted to inform you that our submission for a Round 21 Spring Primary Science Quality Mark was successful.  The assessors stated that ‘all of the reviewers were very impressed by the high quality of the submissions. The commitment to leading science in primary schools over the last demanding year has been outstanding and the positive impact on teaching and learning is very clear.’

Primary Science Quality Mark (PSQM) is the only national award scheme to develop and celebrate the quality of science teaching and learning in primary schools. Schools achieve a PSQM through a year-long process of initial audit, followed by action and evidenced-based reflection. For more information please visit: www.psqm.org.uk

A huge thank you to Miss Brown for her work and leadership in this area as our Science Co-ordinator.

  • Outdoor Play and Learning (OPAL)

Fri 27 May 2022 Miss Bulman

We can't wait to welcome parents/families back in to school on Tuesday 14 June 2022 for our 'Family Outdoor Play and Learning (OPAL) Session'.  It will be a great chance for you to find our more about our OPAL playtimes, which the children love, and you will be able to experience it for yourselves.

The session will begin at 2.30pm on Tuesday 14 June 2022 with an OPAL representative sharing with adults the benefits of OPAL.  This will be followed by a family OPAL session after school.

All children on roll at Parkhead, as well as their younger/older siblings are welcome to come along but they must be accompanied by an adult. Whilst Parkhead staff will be leading OPAL sessions, it will be the parents responsibility to supervise the children once they have been released at the end of the school day. For safeguarding reasons, no child will be able to stay without an adult.

Team SPLAT will be selling refreshments on the yard and we hope to see as many of you there as possible.

To book your place and to help us plan for numbers, please complete the online form which has been sent to all parents via Operoo.

  • Library Bus

Fri 27 May 2022 Miss Bulman

Our aim at Parkhead is to instil a lifelong love of reading in our children. Our library bus provides a quiet, relaxing environment in which children can enjoy reading, sharing and borrowing the wide selection of books available.

We are delighted to be re-opening our library bus for class lessons, use at lunchtimes and family borrowing after school. We have a wide and varied selection of fiction and non-fiction books which we hope will cater to all reading tastes. In order to help us preserve this collection and ensure that all our children have access to attractive and varied books, we ask that you support us by agreeing to the terms and conditions of library books.

Terms and conditions were sent electronically via Operoo to all parents, so if you haven’t already completed the form, please do so as soon as possible so that your child can make use of the library bus after half term.

  • Reading

Fri 20 May 2022 Miss Bulman

Reading continues to be a huge focus here at Parkhead and since the start of the Spring term we have been lucky enough to be involved in a project called World of Stories. Its aim is to help every child develop a love of reading. Not only have we got lots of new ideas to help encourage children to enjoy reading, but they have also sent us over 400 new books. These include fiction, non-fiction, graphic novels and audio books. We are already sharing some in class and can't wait for the children to be able to choose them as part of our library collection.

Children will be visiting the library with their classes regularly but after half term the library bus will also be open on a Monday night after school until 3.45pm so parents can come and choose a book with your children. We look forward to seeing you there.

  • Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Celebrations

Fri 13 May 2022 Miss Bulman

Over the next two weeks the children will be focusing their history lessons on learning about The Queen and each year group will be studying a particular decade from her 70-year reign. The children from each year group will then present information from each decade to the rest of the school.

The School Council have come up with some lovely ideas for a Parkhead Street Party on the afternoon of Thursday 26 May to commemorate this special event.

All of the children are invited to come into school wearing either ‘royal clothes’ or red, white and blue. We will be having an afternoon tea, traditional games, a royal ‘photo booth’ and royal raffle and tombola. As part of the celebrations we are also holding a portrait competition with children from across the school each producing a portrait of The Queen.

The school council would be happy to receive any donations of sweets, chocolates and small games to offer as raffle and tombola prizes.

A huge thank you to SPLAT who were successful in receiving a community grant of £500 from Sir James Knott Trust which will support us greatly with our celebrations.
