Red Nose Day
Fri 11 Mar 2022Red Nose Day is taking place on Friday 18 March 2022. As always, all contributions raised for Red Nose Day help people live free from poverty, violence and discrimination. This year, Comic Relief will also be funding organisations that are supporting people right now in Ukraine, and those attempting to cross the border.
With this in mind, children are welcome to come to school on Friday 18 March dressed as either a super hero, or in blue and yellow clothing to represent our support and solidarity for Ukraine.
Every child in school will receive a red nose on the morning of Friday 18 March so that everyone is the same. With this in mind, we would be grateful of a contribution towards Comic Relief who are directly supporting the Ukrainian appeal, in line with what you can afford. Please note that red noses are retailing at £1.50 each. Together we have the power to change lives.

Fri 04 Mar 2022π»ππWe Stand with Ukraineπ»ππ
I’m sure, like us, you have been shocked, moved and deeply saddened the news reports coming from Ukraine and neighbouring countries as people move to find a place of safety.
Morrison’s, Blaydon are our local collection point and have made the following appeal for items of humanitarian aid to be sent to the Ukraine:
‘Sleeping bags, pillows, baskets, duvets, children's clothes, (new) underwear for women and children, baby bottles, dummies, baby food in Jars, formula, nappies, baby wipes and creams, toiletries and hygiene products, and if we can colouring books and crayons - anything like this for children as they have nothing to play with. Also first AID items ie. bandages, antiseptic creams’
Morrison’s are collecting items until 12 March, so if any of our families feel able to contribute you are welcome to drop them off at Morrisons directly, or drop them in at school. Anything that is brought in to school next week will be taken down to Morrisons by staff and parent volunteers on Friday afternoon next week.

Wonderful World Book Day!
Fri 04 Mar 2022We love World Book Day at Parkhead! As always, there was a fantastic array of costumes and lots of exciting activities taking place throughout the day with a focus on reading for pleasure:
- Each child came dressed as a ‘word’ and there certainly were some weird and wonderful ones! We even learnt some new words and their meanings.
- A special announcement was made everywhere via our Amazon Alexa’s to tell us that we had to drop everything and read!
- Children had some free time to look at a large selection of new books that we have just purchased.
- Classes watched online sessions with different authors
- Our Reading Ambassadors took on very important roles and visited a different class to read them a story.

SPLAT Fundraising
Fri 18 Feb 2022A huge thank you to our parent fundraising group SPLAT who absolutely smashed their first fundraising events this week!
It was fantastic to see such amazing team work with every coming together and supporting. Thank you to everyone to bought raffle tickets, sought prizes for the raffle, baked cakes and sold cakes – each and every act, however large or small, makes a huge difference.
The Valentines Raffle raised £594 and the Valentines Cake Sale raised £200.22. This gives us a grand total of £794.22.

Community Room
Fri 18 Feb 2022We are delighted to have received £6,000 in funding from Household Support Fund.
Plans are in place to convert one of the rooms in our Nursery building in to a community room. An external door will be fitted to allow access, and the room will be fitted out with railings and shelves.
We will create a re-use, reduce, recycle ethos where parents can access a warm, comfortable environment and take what they need, when they need it from donations that have been made. This could be anything from school uniform, sports kit/equipment, food etc.
We hope to open the community room after Easter, and are in the process of trying to come up with a name for it – if you have any suggestions, please let us know!
We are confident that this will be a great addition to support our local community and send thanks to the Household Support Fund for their donation.
